I thought about Gaudette over Kampf, but I mean it seems more like management having the idea that their exposed D-men are more likely to be the pick, and then going and defacto giving them an extra forward that is not overly likely to be picked.
And if so ... as you noted - they still have value in a trade market (value that a guy like Gaudette might not have.
Interesting week (namely because nothing else is happening)... |

I would like to add Danault only because he would take face offs away from Toews who could easily be injured again depending on his prognosis and treatment. |

I’m not sure about Danault. He checks numerous boxes in terms of defensive ability, face offs, compete level, but his offensive output has been in decline and $5+ million a year (and he wants term) wonder if resources could be spent elsewhere. He would help overall team D, and him and Kampf centering lines 3-4 would really take pressure off of Toews and allow him to gradually return. Just fear how much and how long he will sign for (what SB would need to offer to get him to return to chicago) we may regret by the time we are competitive |

His offense hasn’t really declined over the last few years, maybe last year a bit...but if Dach can get to that potential we saw the year before in the playoffs and you have a Toews that’s back to full go then Danault is a perfect 3rd center for us. The hawks lacked that defensive tenacity last year out of the forwards, especially without JT. Might be a moot point with Danault maybe wanting a bigger role going forward with a top 6 role. But he’d be a great fit back here if Toews can be counted on and Dach gets that potential realized! |

I would like Coleman for the 3rd line. Tenacity, versatility, and can score |

Sounded like the top two suitors for Jones were the Hawks and Flyers. With Philly getting Ellis yesterday, does the price on Jones go down? |

I will be a little disappointed if Gaudette is selected by the Kraken. He fits the rebuilding model and has some upside.
People will clamor for Danault. If we new Toews was toast that would be ok. But I would wait to see what Toews can do. If he is only a shadow of his former self the Hawks are probably in the lottery again next year. I am ok with that.
As Theo suggested I believe Stan will look for solid short term investments that he can sign and then flip at the TDL for other assets to continue the rebuild.
Unfortunately I fear they trade for and sign (overpay in assets and cap hit) Seth Jones. |

I hope Seattle takes Tarasenko, Price, Landeskog, Johansson, Bishop, and Quick, retain salary and then flip them for others assets. It would be hysterical. |

There will be a lot of activity after the expansion draft. Plenty of “Janmark””” like players available. I hope Stan does not sign or trade for a big fish this year. Sign good players at decent short term contracts, flip them at the deadline for additional assets and kick the can down the road another year.
I know he is a retread and often injured, but I wonder what the price tag for Raanta would be. I would be ok with signing him to a reasonable short term contract. A pairing of Raanta and Lankinen might be ok. |

I believe they ALL have NMC. So, unless they AGREE to be "flipped" they can go nowhere. This makes it hard for Seattle to just grab them and move them.
That said. In Seattles place I surely would grab Tarasenko and Price. Marketing would be great for them. And either player, wanting a Cup, would gladly waive their NMC come deadline day to go to a contender. Especially Price. Imagine, Seattle eat half of salary. Move Price to Leafs or another contending, goalie-needing team. I am sure they would get back a 1st, 2nd, and decent prospect for Price if a team thought they were a "goalie" away from a Cup run.

Let’s say they are taken in the expansion draft and refuse to waive their NMC. What are their options? Play for an expansion team in Seattle or retire and lose millions. I think they would waive their NMC’s. |

I would love this, just for the pure meltdowns on Montreal and/or Toronto’s board. Philly’s board yesterday was an interesting read after the Ellis trade. Similar to how we debate who is poop and who isn’t, or this prospect is “untouchable” or not. The potential meltdown this would cause, might be epic…. Especially is Toronto finally is able to get the poop together. |

After the way we got rid of him, I don't think Raanta would sign in Chicago if we were his only NHL option. |

Toronto will never go anywhere with their defensive group, they have too much cap tied up with their forwards. They made a mistake when they signed Tavares, that money should have been spent on defense and forward depth, like bottom six. |

Matt Duchene
Ryan Johansen
James van Riemsdyk
Jakub Voracek
Matt Murray
Braden Holtby
Jonathan Quick
Ben Bishop

Milan Lucic
Jeff Skinner
Kevin Shattenkirk
Alex Killorn

Do I then read this correctly, that for the right price, any team could grab one of these guys (barring a NTC/NMC clause) if the Kracken do not?
ETA: Other names of interest. Mark Giordano, Jonathan Drouin, Yanni Gourde, Tyler Johnson, Jason Zucker, Jared McCann and Kaapo Kahkonen are among those |

Which player exposed in the expansion draft would the Hawks want and would the Kraken select and then trade to the Hawks for the Vegas 2nd round pick that the Hawks hold. |

In all seriousness, I feel like Gourde gave us fits in every game. I don't pay close enough attention to other teams, but his is a name that stuck out for me. |

All the players are retained by their teams if not chosen by Seattle. The UFA's can negotiate with anyone beginning July 28.

No, I understand that, but them being on the list tells me that the teams might be more open to trading them than in the past.
Maybe not, maybe the GMs this time took a collective calculated risk of exposing their most expensive players, knowing that SEA could select only 1-2, in hopes of protecting a key piece for their futures.
Nope, guess note, just a very big loophole re: UFAs in the rules that teams are exploiting
@PF_Murphy
Landeskog and Ovechkin are UFAs, all SEA would get from wasting a pick on them was a week of exclusive negotiations before both go and sign with their old teams. Clear hand shake deal on both ends to hold off on resigning until post expansion to save spots on the exempt list. |

If I am the Kraken if I cannot flip Zadorov I take Gaudette. He is cheap with upside.
Then the Hawks sign, trade, or let Zadorov walk.
DeHaan might be able to be moved at the TDL. |

Saad, of course

Kraken would have to sign him before trading him. I doubt that they do. Only way I would be interested in Saad is as UFA on short term low ball deal. |

Sorry, misunderstood you. I'm sure that many of the 1st group of players would be available for trade. Most of that list are expensive under achievers or past their prime. Wouldn't want any of them on the Hawks though.
I can see Seattle taking a run at Landeskog.
